Her mother, Harriet (Nyong’o), is fiercely determined to take care of her family and works tirelessly selling vegetables in the market to make sure her children are fed and have a roof over their heads. The movie, Queen of Katwe is a biographical sports drama film produced by Disney, starring David Oyelowo, Lupita Nyongo, and Madina Nalwanga, the film depicts the life of Phiona Mutesi, a Ugandan girl living in a slum in Katwe who learns to play chess and becomes a Woman Candidate Master after her performances at World Chess Olympiads. The slums, the shacks, the flood and many other unfortunate things people of Katwe had to endure in their life (I wish the Katwe I watched the movie a long time ago before I finally get to read this book.
